THE MANY WORRIES OF MANY WORLDS
نویسندگان
چکیده
Theological engagement with quantum mechanics has been dominated by the Copenhagen interpretation, failing to reflect fact that philosophers and physicists alike are increasingly moving away from interpretation in favor of other approaches. One such approach, Hugh Everett's so-called Many Worlds Interpretation (MWI), is being taken seriously. As MWI's credibility grows, it imperative metaphysicians, theologians, religion engage its ideas their implications. This article does just that, setting out some implications Everettian Quantum Mechanics particularly relevant theism. It argues taking seriously radical consequences Everett means facing at least three major worries for theism pertaining personal identity, problem evil, salvation. The concludes calling on theologians address these worries, order matters religious significance remain both coherent credible if MWI turns be correct.

Many-Events Theory for Many-Worlds Interpretation
The probabilistic prediction of quantum theory is mystery. In this paper I solved the mystery by Many-Events Theory. In this theory an absolute value of a wave function is a radius of a new space. This suggests the unification between quantum theory and the theory of relativity.
متن کاملThe Many-Worlds and Many-Minds Formulations of Quantum Mechanics
The many-worlds and many-minds formulations of quantum mechanics are reconstructions of Hugh Everett ill's (19578, 1957b, 1973) relative-state fonnulation of quantum mechanics. Each is presented as a proposal for solving the quantum measurement problem. Much of the philosophical interest in these theories derives from the metaphysical commitments they suggest. They illustrate the roles played b...
متن کاملThe Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics: Many Worlds or Many Words?
As cutting-edge experiments display ever more extreme forms of non-classical behavior, the prevailing view on the interpretation of quantum mechanics appears to be gradually changing. A (highly unscientific) poll taken at the 1997 UMBC quantum mechanics workshop gave the once alldominant Copenhagen interpretation less than half of the votes. The Many Worlds interpretation (MWI) scored second, c...
متن کاملAgainst Many-Worlds Interpretations
This is a critical review of the literature on many-worlds interpretations (MWI), with arguments drawn partly from earlier critiques by Bell and Stein. The essential postulates involved in various MWI are extracted, and their consistency with the evident physical world is examined. Arguments are presented against MWI proposed by Everett, Graham and DeWitt. The relevance of frequency operators t...
متن کاملMany Worlds? An Introduction
This problem of getting the interpretation proved to be rather more difficult than just working out the equation. Ask not if quantum mechanics is true, ask rather what the theory implies. What does realism about the quantum state imply? What follows then, when quantum theory is applied without restriction, if need be to the whole universe? This is the question that this book addresses. The answ...
